Revolutionary Tavern Life

This program promotes critical thinking and encourages the awareness of different perspectives. Students achieve this through discussion, inquiry-based learning, as well as the exploration of tavern life and the lives of various people from the American Revolution. The program includes visiting the historic Long Room where George Washington bid farewell to his officers in 1783 and exploring flags of the Continental Army. Students will participate in hands-on activities that enhance the themes from the galleries and challenge students to use what they have learned from the museum tour.

Length of Program: 90 minutes, educator-led. The program is held during morning hours (starting at 10:00 or 10:30am) before the Museum opens to the public.

Targeted Subjects: American Revolution, Colonial New York City, Early American Tavern Life, George Washington, History of Fraunces Tavern.

Grades: 4th - 5th (program can be modified to better fit a variety of audiences).

Cost: $100 per class of 35 students or fewer; $180 for up to 54 students.
