Kosciuszko: Bridge to Liberty For All

Celebrate Brigadier General of the Continental Army and Polish freedom fighter, Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Learn about his efforts to end slavery, as illustrated by his will and enjoy a piano concert by pianist and harpsichordist Magdalena Baczewska, who will be playing original compositions by Kosciuszko. Make a toast with the original cocktail, “The Kosciuszko Bridge,” which joins the “spirits” of two nations: Polish Bison Grass Vodka and American gin.

Paul Finkelman
Paul Finkelman is the author of more than 200 scholarly articles and more than forty books. He is a specialist on American legal history, U. S. Constitutional law, race and law, the law of American slavery, the First Amendment, religious liberty, the history of the Second Amendment, African American history, the American Civil War, and legal issues surrounding American sports.  The United States Supreme Court has cited his work in four decisions and he has been cited in numerous decisions by other federal and state courts and in many appellate briefs.  He has lectured on slavery and human trafficking and on human rights issues at the United Nations, throughout the United States, and in more than a dozen other countries.  In 2014 he was ranked as the fifth most cited legal historian in American legal scholarship in Brian Leiter’s “Top Ten Law Faculty (by area) in Scholarly Impact, 2009-2013.”  He was an expert witness in the famous Alabama Ten Commandments Monument Case (Glassroth v. Moore) and in the law suit over the ownership of Barry Bonds’ 73rd home run ball (Popov v. Hayashi).

Alex Storozynski
Alex Storozynski is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, award-winning author, director, and President Emeritus & Chairman of the Board of The Kosciuszko Foundation. He is also the writer and director of the documentary film, “Kosciuszko: A man Ahead of his Time.”
As a New York Daily News editorial board member Storozynski wrote editorials and op-ed columns on public policy issues and was part of the writing team that won the Pulitzer Prize, George Polk Award, Sigma Delta Chi Award, Deadline Club Award, Associated Press and Silurian Awards. He is a former City Editor of The New York Sun, founding editor of amNewYork, and has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Post, Newsday, Forbes.com, The Huffington Post and other publications.

His book The Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Era of Revolution, won the Fraunces Tavern Book Award, The Templar Military History Award – “Military Order of Saint Louis,” and other honors. His documentary film, Kosciuszko: A Man Ahead of His Time, was broadcast on PBS WNET New York, WTTW Chicago and WLIW Long Island and in the fall will be shown on PBS stations across America.

Storozynski received a Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University (85) and a Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz. (83) He also received a post-graduate fellowship at the University of Warsaw.
