Author and SRNY member Ric Murphy will speak about his family genealogy, and his ancestors who fought in the American Revolution, serving in New York, Massachusetts and North Carolina regiments.  Their story is covered in Ric’s book, Freedom Road, which also details Ric’s ancestors who fought in the War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War.

Ric Murphy is an acclaimed educator, historian, scholar, lecturer, and award-winning author.  Ric was a Senior Executive Fellow at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government; and he has a Master’s degree in Urban Affairs from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts.  He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and his family lineage dates to the earliest colonial periods of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and of Jamestown, Virginia.  In addition to being a member of Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Ric is a member of the National Society of the Sons of Colonial New England, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage.   Ric’s books weave together personal stories of amazing men and women, set in the backdrop of both domestic and international events, and recount the history and significant contributions made by Americans of African descent over four hundred years of United States history.

This special event will include a reception and Ric Murphy’s lecture at Fraunces Tavern Museum, followed by an optional prix-fixe dinner at Fraunces Tavern Restaurant.

Tickets MUST be purchased in advance. Ticket sales for the in-person program end on Thursday, September 23 at 5:00pm. Virtual lecture tickets will still be available until 6:00pm the day of the program.
